1. Write something using both of your hands – Studies show that we only activate one hemisphere of our brain whenever we use our dominant hand. But, whenever we use our non-dominant hand, both hemispheres of our brain are activated. According to Lucia Capacchione, author of the “Power of Your Other Hand”, regardless of which hand we use, writing and drawing with the non-dominant hand gives greater access to our right brain functions such as creativity, intuition, inner wisdom and spirituality. So try doodling with both hands if ever you find yourself stuck.
2. Spend Time Outdoors Without Wi-fi – A recent study was conducted by psychologists from the University of Utah and the University of Kansas. They observed the participants in their experiment who went on a four-day hike, without any laptop or mobile phone, showed a 50% increase in creativity tests, compared to those who didn’t go on a hike. This just goes to show that even without wi-fi in the forest, or the mountain, you’ll be assured of a better connection, with yourself, that is!
- Listen to your favorite music- A research from Finland found that when our brains process the timbre of a song, it activates our brain’s mind-wandering mode, thereby inspiring creativity.
