1. Why did you write the book “Anything’s Possible. Anything Goes!”
Your readers might be interested to know that I struggled to read as a child and was placed in the lowest reading group called, “The Purple Turtle.” Life has a way of proving that we aren’t as limited as what we may think we are and I somehow fell into being a children’s author. After having over 70 children’s book published internationally, I decided it was time that I released one for the children right here in my own back yard. I wrote and illustrated my rhyming picture book, “Anything’s Possible. Anything Goes!” to empower the minds and hearts of children everywhere. It playfully brings an awareness that our thoughts, words and actions have the ability to create unlimited possibilities in our lives. As a special tribute, one of the pages of the book depicts a purple turtle, in memory of the child that once struggled within me years ago.
2. You’re such an inspiration, how did you conceptualize the idea for The Sparkler Princess?
Thank you. I am so thankful for the inspiration I receive from the many loving people in my life, especially the children. I am happy to share the short version of how the Sparkler Princess came to be in this interview. When my wonderful husband and I first met four years ago, through casual conversation we both discovered that we had a similar desire, which was to inspire, motivate and support the emotional health and well-being of children. I personally, have always had a heart for children, specializing in an Early Childhood Education back ground. In my early courtship with my husband, I was very pleased to discover that we were on the same page with our concerns for children. We are especially concerned with some of the media that children are being exposed to today. My new husband casually mentioned one day that a couple of years before he met me, he had once thought it would be fun to create a TV channel called sparkler TV – a channel designed to empower children, however, at the time of the idea, he somehow didn’t feel ready. In an instant after hearing him share this crazy, out of the box idea with me, I instantaneously received an amazing vision of a character called, “The Sparkler Princess,” who would play the role of a new Pied Piper for empowerment. Magically, it was as if my husband’s dream had been living within me all along, and our synchronistic meeting somehow “sparked” the creation of the idea. The inspiration came so easily, yet the work behind it has been very involved and time consuming. Much of our evenings, early morning and weekends are spent building the dream. It has been evolving for the past four years, with new concepts and ideas coming to life every day.
3. Tell us how you prepare for the show, “The Sparkler Princess.”
The preparation for each show is very involved, yet also a lot of fun. We brainstorm with ideas of how we can get certain learning concepts across in a fun way for children. For example, our first episode, which has just been released, is all about the power of imagination. A rough script is written and rewritten and re-written until we both feel that it resonates with the message we want to offer. The Sparkler Princess and Bluey then step into their characters and the magic comes alive as we step into the studio and shoot the footage for the episode. This can be a lot of fun with a few funny bloopers along the way. We laughed a lot as we play. My husband, who is an amazing video graphics artist then takes the raw footage and creates the magic that everyone else sees after an episode is released. He is truly the hero here. Our show’s platform takes place on a Discovery Star Ship where the power of imagination can come alive with the “ping” of my wand! We are fortunate to have everything at our fingertips, the lights, the cameras, the action and of course the studio to create endless possibilities. Currently, we are a two person team, however, we are inviting other creative individuals to help build this dream for the children. 4. What’s next for the Sparkler Princess? Do you have any upcoming projects?
We are currently working on our second episode in which will be introducing characters called, “The Thought Pirates” In this fun episode we will be teaching children how to deal positively with negative thoughts that can keep them from being the best that they can be.
We are also involved in showcasing author’s picture books for children ages 3 to 8 in the form of animated video books. We are open to submissions. Please query first if you’re interested as we are quite selective in what we choose to showcase. Anyone interested can contact scott@heart-centered-
