The lockdown has given us the chance to do interesting things, to learn new skills and  to create, rather than to consume. It is one of the most valuable times that  allowed the flow  of  ideas to help one overcome boredom and to nurture a creative seed and let it flourish.  In our latest author spotlight, we’ll get to know more about this 20 year old author who  wrote his book, during the lockdown, which is entitled, “Journey Made Awesome”, as well as composed a song, entitled “Judah” , using his lockdown time to become creative and productive.  Shiva, as what most people call him,  faced certain obstacles early on in life but has since overcome his challenges and fears. It is from these lessons that  he wants to inspire others, especially teenagers, to learn more about themselves through self-discovery. Let us get to know more about this promising author in this author spotlight on Shivathmaj M. Shenoy.

First of all, what inspired you to write this book?

My interest in creating wealth for myself and for those around me by empowering them with knowledge, has led to the idea of the book, ‘Journey Made Awesome’. This book is for everyone who wants to make money and to become free of the so-called Rat Race. The idea of ‘Journey Made Awesome’ is geared towards giving you financial freedom, by realizing, understanding, and tapping into wealth from the utilization of an online community. In this book, ‘Journey Made Awesome’, you will learn a lot about what you need to do in order to leave that job that is not paying you well.  As well as, how you can utilize your  purpose to your advantage and how to become a boss, even as a teenager.

Wow, and I understand that you wrote this book during the lockdown. Could you please share your process of writing this book?

To be honest, it all started when I enrolled in Engineering. I had a habit of taking a notepad, whenever I would attend any talk or seminar. Our Canara Engineering  College conducted many talks to educate us. I actively participated and noted points. I have a diary and a habit of writing whatever good or bad experience I have everyday. During the first month of the lock down I was so depressed. Then, on the second month, I thought, I wanted to do something and contribute to the world . So, I gathered all my knowledge  from all the podcasts and Youtube videos I have  heard and tailored them into a practical guide.  I then informed my mom, dad  and friends (about it). My sister played a major role in making this book a reality.  In one month, I was able to convert my diary info notepad into a book, which my sister edited. I also composed a  song entitled “Judah”, which you can listen on Youtube through the link below:

Who encouraged you to write this book?

My Mother, Father, Grandma and Sister. Also, my great idols. I look up to Sandeep Maheshwari, Gaur Gopal, Das Mayank and Bhattacharya. Apart from them, my English teacher, Anita Jacob, my Engineering lecturer, Sarita Mam,Krishna Sir,Anish Sir and Anupama. Also my friends, Ujwal Dithesh, Rakshan Sudeepthi, Jisha Yashwitha, Varsha Suraj, Vipin Neha and many other friends from our College Department supported me in this writing endeavor.

What was your writing schedule like?

My schedule was I would start in the morning from 5 a.m. or 5.30 a.m.  I journalized what I’ve learnt from the previous day and also wrote my daily goal. During the 2020 lockdown, I would write daily, five hours straight, trying to make the book  relatable and implementable.

Writing can be an emotionally draining and stressful pursuit. Any tips for aspiring writers?

Of course. Writing was indeed  a draining task for me. But, my passion to share to the world my ideas, motivated me to continue. However, I would like to clearly say to aspiring writers that, until you’re really passionate and until you love what you’re writing and until you set  a clear goal and know the purpose behind your writing, then you cannot finish writing your book.

Great tips Shivathmaj. Please let us know where we can get copies of your book “Journey Made Awesome” and where we could find more about you and your work.
