It’s such a great pleasure to be interviewing today BJ Richards, a full-time healing arts practitioner and author of the book “Coconut Oil Breakthrough: Boost Your Brain, Burn the Fat, Build Your Hair”.
Hi! BJ. Thanks for gracing us with this interview. What brought you to write this book? Was there any interesting personal story you’d like to share with our readers?
I was hearing a great deal about coconut oil. But so much of what I was finding was either super technical or too general. So I decided someone needed to write something that gave all the medical and clinical information, but in a way that was informative with depth and not overwhelming.
What’s the most creative recipe you’ve made with coconut oil?
My favorite receipt is a super simple one. That’s my popcorn recipe. It’s easy to make and tastes great. Once you start making popcorn this way, you’ll never go back… LOL
Are your kids fond of coconut oil too?
Yes, my daughter loves coconut oil. She uses it for everything from skin care to food preparation.
What do you think people should look for when buying coconut oil?
The most important thing to look at when buying coconut oil is the label. Make sure it says “virgin” coconut oil. It should look like lard on the grocer’s shelf unless it’s really warm in their store, and most grocery stores are cold!
What’s the greatest challenge you have ever faced as a writer?
I think one of the challenges most writers have is narrowing their focus and not going too wide on their topic. Then you can start to get overwhelmed. It’s better to map out the most important points on your topic, and use those as your chapter topics and go from there. That way you keep focused and your topic stays interesting.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received from someone in terms of your career?
Well, that’s actually two things.
There comes a point when you have to put the pen down and stop tweaking! Nothing will ever be perfect and after a certain point, you need to get it published. We’re our own worst critics here.
Don’t give up. If you like something and you’ve done your research and found others that like that topic too, then sit down, focus and write!
I agree. So, what’s next for BJ Richards?
What’s next? I’ve just finished writing an urban fantasy series called Conjure the Storm. I’m hoping to have that ready to go in the next couple of months. Also, will be putting together a box-set that will include apple cider vinegar, baking soda and coconut oil books.
That’s interesting. Where can readers find more about you and your work?
